Learn a simple self hypnosis technique for deep relaxation and to create what you desire.

Meditation is without a doubt a wonderful way to calm and center one’s self for those who are able to learn how to do it. For years my ex-husband tried to get me to learn how to meditate, for he had found it worked real well for calm and relaxation. However, no matter how many times he tried to get me to meditate, it just wasn’t happening for me. I got more tense as I was supposedly learning how to “relax and let go”. My mind was a bit too active. So, I gave up until I decided to go to my first hypnosis training in March of 2001. It was there that I learned that I could “meditate with a purpose”. In self hypnosis, one’s mind is in the same state as someone who is meditating. However, the goal in hypnosis is to reach a goal either with the assistance of a hypnotist or through self hypnosis.
I found that when my mind had something on which to concentrate, I could easily relax and get into a hypnotic state. I knew that I had reached that place for myself because my eyes were indeed relaxed. It was really too much effort to open them (a state known in hypnosis as eye catalepsy). As I worked to deepen myself, I realized that my arms were heavy. Then I started swallowing a lot as my throat muscles got ever more relaxed.
The beautiful thing about hypnosis is that once you know how to put your self into trance, you can give your self suggestions in order to reach the goals that you would like. A suggestion is nothing more than an affirmation that you are giving to your self in the hypnotic state. Why does that matter? Because while in the hypnotic state, you are communicating with your unconscious mind, which is the part of your mind that “runs” you.
The unconscious mind does not have the ability to judge, rationalize or reason. Therefore, whatever it is told it will believe. The changes you want to realize can happen quite easily when you continuously give your unconscious mind the directions that you would like it to follow in order to attain your goals.
Below I give you the basic instructions that I use with my clients so that they learn how to hypnotize themselves. All the components are there for a very nice “trance” state. However, do understand that like any new skill, it may take you a bit of practice before being able to get into that really, really relaxed state that we know as trance. Also understand that one does not need to be in a really deep trance to effect change. One merely needs to be relaxed and it will work just as well, so long as you are giving yourself suggestions that you really want to have take place in reality.
Here are the directions to how to do self-hypnosis. When practicing them, remember that any time you focus on something long and hard enough you will indeed go into a “trance” state.
Self Hypnosis Technique:
Take a deep breath in. Then exhale slowly, allowing all worries or concerns from the day to disappear out your fingers and toes.
Take another deep breath in. Exhale slowly, allowing yourself to drop into a peaceful and relaxed state.
Go ahead and relax the tiny muscles by the sides of your eyes until they are so relaxed that they are too heavy to open. When you know that they are so relaxed go ahead and test them.
Take that relaxation that you feel in your eyes and bring it up to the top of your head and then down to your toes.
Go ahead and double that relaxation.
Go ahead and make yourself as deeply relaxed as you have ever been in a trance state.
You can go down the spiral steps (10-0) if you want to deepen yourself more.
You can imagine a comfortable place to put yourself in while you give yourself your suggestions (affirmations).
At this point, you give yourself the affirmations which are always positively stated as if they’re happening now. Work to create your affirmations so that they are always positive. Your imagination will take anything in that feels positive and helpful to you. Caution: never use the words don’t or can’t…turn them into what you want and can do always. Your unconscious mind can’t process these sorts of negatives.
Examples:
- I am easily able to follow my desire and allow myself to write for ___amount of time each day.
- I will find a comfortable place to do my writing and will allow myself the pleasure of experiencing my own creative juices flowing.
- I am able to express myself through my words and am doing so more and more each day.
- Anything in your life that you want to lessen, tell your self that it is happening less and less often.
- You may wish to write your affirmations before you put yourself in trance to make it easier for you.
If you use these tools along with your tapes, you will find yourself thinking and behaving in much more positive ways and actually doing the things that you say you desire to do for yourself. We know that as long as the goal is reasonable you can attain it through the hypnotic process. Have fun and let me know how it goes.
